Once on my mission the other local elders had the idea to see how far they could get their (church loaned) car to drift in the church parking lot. Being experienced stunt drivers (18 year olds) they revved to 60mph and managed a perfect 50 meter drift right into the building
Most elders are goofballs but even so everyone watching had this very understandable sentiment: "What were they THINKING?"

Well, the answer there is obvious, but a better question would be why didn't they CATCH themselves? How can you prevent STUPIDITY?

Actually: gratitude.
Gratitude engenders respect- if these elders had been grateful for what they had, their car, their calling, or even their day off, they would have been MUCH more responsible, appreciating their resources, and not seeing them as disposable.

Grateful people, don't do dumb things!
This is why the prophet's recent prescription for the world is so brilliant: Rather than try to put out any individual fire, he asks the world to embrace a mindset that will help them see clearly. A medicine for the roots.
