Remember when Al Capone announced what the judge was going to say... and the judge was having none of it? Seems relevant to November 2020, doesn't it! It all has to do with LincolnsBible's thread embedded here. h/t @LincolnsBible https://twitter.com/LincolnsBible/status/1329830944509931521
Capone, today, is more famous for falling to tax evasion charges than anything else. Not the St. Valentines Day Massacre. Not for the drive-by murder of Edward O'Hare.
The U.S. Treasury, in addition to Capone himself, went after his brother Bottles Capone, and Greasy Thumb Guzik, Frank Nitti, and other mobsters. But we remember Capone. Capone had the publicity. That's Capone on the far left. Photo op.
On June 16, 1931, Capone pled guilty to tax evasion and prohibition charges.
Capone then boasted to the press that he had struck a deal for a two-and-a-half year sentence. This newspaper page is from June 22, 1931. I don't see Capone but I do see the Purple Gang, Barber Jake, and plumber's union racketeering.
However, the presiding judge informed Capone that he, the judge, was not bound by any deal.

Oops! That sounds like Judge Sullivan in November 2020!

Capone then changed his plea to not guilty. The jury convicted on October 18, 1931.
The FBI also notes "Suffering from a case of syphilis that left him too mentally ill to resume his previous criminal activities, he was paroled in 1939 and settled in Florida, where he lived until his death in 1947."

Here's the FBI vault on Capone.
