Is there a correlation between change of direction and diving❓

A dive = rotational jump

Athletes practice jumping / throwing exercises to improve acceleration & landing exercises to improve deceleration...

Can acceleration / deceleration work help improve dive performance❓
💭 These are just our thoughts, we aren’t saying this is the answer by any means!
Here’s a few professions to try:
(make sure to stop/land well before moving onto accel)

1️⃣ Jump or drop and land wide stance (outside leg 1st) + hold
2️⃣ Jump + change direction on landing
3️⃣ Jump + reactive change direction
4️⃣ Crossover/lateral shuffle/sprint + change direction
Our thoughts are:

When most GKs dive, they have a small hop/pulse to self organise their body to dive. So they will go through a slight deceleration on the outside leg before pushing back
Both techniques, you’ll start movement by pushing from 1 leg & then transfer force to other, which is like deceleration into acceleration

If able to decelerate, you have much more ability to accelerate into direction you want to go because you have far less leakage of energy
⚠️ Obviously when diving to make a save, you don’t know where the ball is going so it’s an agility based movement. However, you have to work on the technique and power of the dive so you can then apply it when you react to the ball
Likewise with change of direction. Get better at the movement first so you can execute it when you have to react
