A COVID-19 liability bill is currently up for discussion in the House session. Rep Austin Davis (D-Allegheny), the original prime sponsor, pulled his name off the bill, saying that the Senate amendments changed the legislation into something he couldn't support https://twitter.com/ThePLSReporter/status/1329794531127160834
The original bill was introduced in 2019 and gave environmental liability protections for economic development agencies, but it was amended in the Senate to extend liability protections to schools, businesses, manufacturers, PPE users and more for COVID-19 related decisions
Republicans say this helps businesses and organizations "get back to normal" by taking away the fear of litigation. There's an emphasis on protecting schools' ability to return to in-person learning (worth noting that many schools are going virtual as a result of surging cases)
Dems argue that bad actors will be protected if they express a "good faith belief" that they followed public health directives. They say this doesn't protect the people who could get sick as a result of negligence
