A cool thing about media is that no one can tell you what's right or wrong about your interpretation of it. You can ship whoever you want, change whoever you want into whatever you want, because a character is not a real person, it's a made up idea that exists only in our brains.
This is why I don't like to continue the story of a main character on our show, AND why I don't explain what I think their life is like later. There's a big cultural push about canon in stories right now, what counts as wog etc, but I strongly believe in death of the author.
You can make something, but you can't control how it gets interpreted. You can try, but everyone will have their interpretation anyway, so there's really no point as all it will do is cause fans to use "canon" as a weapon against eachother.
So you might as well embrace it. I try not to explain meanings or what happens to characters because I would rather have fans do it themselves, interpret it and love it for themselves, and not have someone be like "no, your interpretation is wrong because the showrunner said so"
That's how things get toxic and gross. That's why I'm always like "they're dead", it's because it's so unbelievably stupid that there's no other option but to come up with something else on your own, and everyone's version is just as valid as everyone else's.
