In our delirious, reckless rush to commodify naturism, we’ve diluted or abandoned altogether its philosophical principles in order to broaden its marketability. In doing so, we’ve removed our voice from so many important dialogues. 1/5
Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance. It’s kind of insane to me that naturists have essentially ignored the trans experience. The core of our philosophy is a commitment to the destigmatization of the body. 2/5
In fact, we celebrate the body in all its forms. In our communities, we may see a body that has lost a breast to disease, or a limb to an accident. We observe the aging process. And we all gain enlightenment from this exposure. 3/5
So much of the hatred and violence in our society is rooted in our unwillingness to look deeper than the superficial physical appearance. We won’t allow ourselves to be enriched by diversity, because we fear and misunderstand it. 4/5
Naturists can’t solve these issues, but damn. Why is our voice missing from the conversation? If “body acceptance” is truly the basis of our philosophy, why aren’t we the strongest advocate, the loudest ally, for every person wondering if they have a place? 5/5
