Why do I read the comment sections?
I applied for permission to observe some of the proceedings (to write about for a class project). News sources, while informative, cannot compare to being there in person. Even after five minutes of observation, it would be nearly impossible to conclude “faking it”
Along with a misunderstanding as to what NCR actually means, I question whether the current lack of “open courts” are contributing factor in the public outrage surrounding this case
ie: I saw comments degrading the jury and saying they hope he “moves in next to the judge who decides the case after he gets out”
Understandably, few people consider observing court a pass time, but I think hearing about the trial from someone you know holds a bit more weight than passively reading news reports - my heart was certainly heavy for all involved when leaving the courthouse
With that being said, I hope that all of those involved will have access to the supports needed to decompress after such a clearly stressful trial
finally, one of the key themes of my ethics journal was how patient and compassionate @gorhamlaw was in his examination, in a case that was no doubt difficult (Raymond had fired a lawyer because he couldn’t access a change of clothes)
