The international break is over and it's time for a thread on Newcastle Utd ⚫

I'll try to look at NewC's strengths & weaknesses and conclude with my XI to beat them

After their loss to ManUtd, NewC have switched to a 3-5-2 formation which they've used in their last 3 games (1)
Defensively, Newcastle sit in a 5-3-1-1 formation which stays narrow & gives up space on the flanks which forces the opposition to only rely on crosses into the box which their 3 CBs are expected to deal with.

The 2 men up top lead their counters with the ST being the outlet (2)
In possession, NewC attempts early balls into the channels for their striker to run onto or work it to the WBs to put a cross in.

When the WB gets in a crossing position, the opposite CM & along with the 2 STs get in the box to attack the cross. Wilson being the big threat (3)
A big problem for Newcastle has been their confusion to commit to a particular style of football. The players look confused whether they need to play out from back or go long.

This has made them extremely susceptible to high pressing and has resulted in many costly turnovers (4)
Player to watch out for :

Wilson - The biggest and only real threat NewC have got. The striker is their leading scorer this season and has single-handedly won points for them in an otherwise disappointing start to the season.

If he misses the game, our CS is probably safe. (5)
NewC Weak Areas -

• Their focus to defend the middle leaves their WBs isolated. Skillful wingers or overloading the flanks can kill them

• The 3 CBs are prone to positional errors and lapses in concentration

• Zero creativity in attack which is heavily reliant on Wilson (6)
My XI vs Newcastle

• CHO starts to give Werner much needed rest & his 1v1 dribbling ability will be useful when taking on the NewC WBs

• Mount & Kova to maintain high pressing

• RJ & Chilly to overload the flanks

• Rudi & Zouma to deal with the pace & strength of Wilson
Additional Thoughts -

Newcastle have been so poor this season that I expect a comfortable win for us. And this isn't complacency.

We just need to keep individual errors in check and we won't even have to get out of 2nd gear in this one.

Thanks for reading as always! 🙌💙
