#mboks...
.. #midnighttrain can be said to be a fusion of many genres of music across Africa; from Afropop to Funk & Disco, AfroHouse to Soul music, African Twist to Rhumba. This is all without losing the authentic decade long Sauti Sol sound.
..4 singles we released from the album. All with videos
1. #Suzanna
2. #Discomatanga (yambakhana)
3. #Brighterdays
4. #Insecure
They received both positive and negative reception from critics. Suzanna being the most successful single released from the album in all platforms...
1. Intro
The intro track set tone of the entire album. The acapella song is a product of excellent songwriting. The theme being to do whatever makes you happy as whatever one does he/will be judged irregardless. This will definitely be a banger at 0300h in bars and clubs.
2. #Midnighttrain
You will have to put on your dancing shoes on when this track drops. With it's funky style and a rhythmic moving train sound start it off, this has a making of a hit (Hallo Sura yako). Also it is the tittle track of the album.
3. #Insecure
If you're battling insecurities in every corner of your life then this is your song. It talks about the daily insecurities,in one's love life to body insecurities. Before releasing it, each band member talked about their insecurities and asked the fans to post theirs
4. #Feelmylove
For those of us who were a fan of Westlife growing up this will bring back some nostalgia. From the composition to lyrics this is the the ultimate love song from the album. This will definitely be on rotation every Valentine's week 💯
5. #Brighterdays
Talk about perfect timing. This song was released just when Covid-19 was starting to get into Kenya and Africa as a whole. With it's main message being better times are ahead. This song resonates with most people as they hope for better days ahead. Soweto choirđŸ”„
6. #Nendalote
This is the most Sauti Sol song from the album. It talks about a marriage which is about to crumble. There's no more love and divorce is imminent đŸ˜„. However, we have a feeling that this song will repair many broken marriages. Ask us how.
7. #Suzanna
Why isn't this song called 'Senje'. Anyway this track was the one that started it all. The vintage nature of the song in general created a certain vibe. A đŸ”„ track, definitely club banger yet educative(women's extreme quest for beauty). Afropop at its best.
8. #setmefree interlude
This had a feel of Kenya during the 70s- 90s. The African twists songs by the Daudi Kabakas and John Nzenzes. It just missed the Twisti beat. However, don't get mistaken the lyrics are from the modern society and it's troubles...
9. #MyEverything
They really did a track with India Arie, we still can't believe it. The song has grown with time. A soulful song with vocals from the best from the world of soul music. This is a definite classic.
10. #wakeup
Another song with a funky vibe. This is a song that will definitely be a surprise when concerts are in full throttle. People will sing along to it. The chorus is catchy. Meanwhile, it will have to hide in the album. But it will surely grow with time.
11. #Sober
A reflective and remorseful track. This will hit differently on Saturday mid-morning when nursing hangovers while making the cliche vows never to drink again. On other hand it's a reflective song on how alcohol has led to many families becoming dysfunctional..
12. #RhumbaJapani
An experimental track. Everyone delivered on this track despite having featured several artists. Special mention to Xenia. She brought something different to the chorus which made it a monster hit.
13. #discomatanga
There's a feeling that in every Sauti Sol's album there is this kind of track. This is where they take us down South for a dose of House music. And we absolutely love it. Oh wait it featured on Netflix
..the album is performed in 5 different languages
#English
#Swahili
#Sheng
#luhya
#tsonga
