Why I love running Published #Adventure #Modules - A Thread!

I do love making my own stuff and even publishing it too, but running other people’s creations is a really great thing for me.

If you care to know why, follow along!

The first thing I would say about published adventures is that they are very helpful for beginner GMs and even more experienced ones, as they help you get familiarized with the game, the game setting, themes and the way an adventure usually is set and is played in that #TTRPG!
For example. A person only familiar with LotR and WoW can come to a #DCCRPG or #BLB game expecting something else and try to run a game with that in mind. It probably won’t work as intended. A published adventure might help them understand how that game usually is played!
The second reason I love published modules is that they save me a lot of time. There’s a lot of modules out there that are quick to read, easy to modify or even to run on the fly. They are perfect for one-shots and to use on sandbox campaigns.
The third reason I love published adventures is that I get to experience the creativity of other authors. No matter how much I research and how many experiences I have, other people will have ideas that I won’t ever have. Me and my players will have something different to play!
I use this for a variation even in longer campaigns, like a sidequest or a quick detour to help shake things up. Or even as a break so we can stretch or “gaming” legs! And honestly I learn a lot from them! A lot that I can incorporate on my own repertoire to create my own stuff!
And the fourth reason I love playing and running published modules is that it is a shared experience. You and hundreds of other people will play that adventure and you will have something in common with them. You can talk with them about it and have great conversations!
And when I run the same adventure for multiple groups, I love comparing how each group takes the adventure and make their own unique story with it. Some adventures become so iconic and people see it almost as a rite of passage! We talk about them years after they were published!
So yeah, that’s it. That’s why, even as I write my own stuff and love creating my own adventures too, I love playing published modules!
It’s not for everyone, I know. But It might be for you if you want to try!
