I know it’s often “men ain’t shit” on here, and while the patriarchy is definitely shit, it’s still Happy International Men’s Day. We need to address the issues they face too, here’s a few. 4x higher suicide rate, often ridiculed for coming out as abuse victims, (1/3)
more likely to be homeless or develop substance abuse issues, impossibly high standard of masculinity, build and strength to uphold, more likely to be killed, shot or incarcerated (even moreso POC), LGBTQ+ men face homophobia, bullying and ostracism, (2/3)
more likely to lose custody battles, often have their value tied to financial gain and providing capabilities; related to more job-related anxiety, and much less likely to seek therapy or medical help bc of the expectation to “man up” (3/3)
And before I get labeled as a pick me, we could write novels about the vast amount of issues women face, but giving men a day will not take away from that
