ok i will do a one like = one @nyrbclassics recommendation thread until i get bored with this post being the like collector https://twitter.com/bdmcclay/status/1329820460431925251
my personal opinion is that the most reliable genre of NYRBs is "memoirs by interesting women," and this memoir about Picasso is great and delicately threads a lot of needles about what was genuinely good and genuinely awful about being with him

if you are a person who is interested in the essay form you should own this, she is one of the greats https://www.nyrb.com/collections/classics/products/the-collected-essays-of-elizabeth-hardwick?variant=41920073287 (or else, if you don't want to get this, get Seduction & Betrayal. but this one has my favorite essay, so)
do you like stories about doomed gay men? do you like stories about horrible English people? do you like stories about dogs? https://www.nyrb.com/collections/classics/products/we-think-the-world-of-you-3?variant=1094933125
I think I liked this book more than most people I knew but I very much recommend it particularly because it's not really focused on the breakup of the relationship but more about trying and failing to find things that will relieve you from existing. https://www.nyrb.com/collections/classics/products/divorcing?variant=32752575676553
also it's funny
Of the Comyns books NYRB publishes, this one is my favorite. It is a book wherein a beaten down, abused, powerless young girl discovers a superpower. It makes her life much worse! https://www.nyrb.com/collections/classics/products/the-vets-daughter?variant=1094932729
The Other Elizabeth Taylor: I have not read fan favorite Angel, but I do love this delicate novel about childhood loves and how they are both stronger and weaker than we might wish. https://www.nyrb.com/collections/classics/products/the-vets-daughter?variant=1094932729
gonna log off for a bit but I love Pitch Dark, it is in fact my favorite of the two Adler novels, it is paranoid and great and I love its use of repeated phrases over different contexts https://www.nyrb.com/products/pitch-dark?_pos=1&_sid=741ffd4cd&_ss=r&variant=1094930793
