According to rebate data I analyzed, electric-car buyers in California are typically:

⚡️68% male
⚡️45% white, 28% Asian American
⚡️72% have household income >$100K

That leaves out many women & people of color, a majority of the state's population.

The EV disparity is most striking in terms of gender:

Women buy 45% of new cars sold in the U.S., yet they buy less than 1/3 of electric cars.

Why? @PhilTing said 1 factor could be the narrow range of EV choices.

"The best-selling cars right now are trucks, SUVs and minivans"
That said, a lot of work is being done across California to make EVs accessible to more women/ people of color/ lower-income folks.

Oakland resident Maya Katz-Ali recently bought a plug-in EV through a subsidy program.
