This is what I mean when I say Brexit is a Hard Right Deregulation Project.

It's all about the removal of safeguards, scrutiny, protections, rights.

The racism was the carrot to get voters to vote against their own wishes. https://twitter.com/GeorgeMonbiot/status/1329701729328357379
Brexit was a transaction between those who benefit from deregulation and racists. The racists gave the deregulators their vote as long as the deregulators implemented xenophobic policies.
For "wishes" I should more accurately have said "interests".

Tell the average voter this and they haven't got a clue. First they'd deny it, but note the UK red lines of Level Playing Field commitments. That's the last thing deregulators want.
These LPF's were originally in the WA, then became a red line. https://twitter.com/tconnellyRTE/status/1159569598267744256
Brexiters claim they are removing commitments to things like food standards because they want to raise standards later... It's absolute bullshit: there's nothing to stop them raising standards now. Therefore why remove the safeguards? So they can remove standards.
I remember Thatcher did this in the 80's - deregulated the food industry: famously afterwards, Chicken Kiev "meat" in lukewarm water was found to be composed solely of compressed chicken skin.
Johnson claimed he wants to enhance workers' rights after brexit TUC general secretary Frances O’Grady told The Independent: “Boris Johnson claims that he intends to enhance rights at work after Brexit."
“But instead they’re threatening a catastrophic no deal, which would strip away existing legal protections and leave essential rights open to attack.”

If he wants to enhance rights, why hasn't Johnson already? It's been a year since we left. Why didn't he enhance them before?
Nothing stopping him.

I mean it's all so obvious what's going to happen. Why isn't anyone talking about it apart from me and Monbiot?
Ian Dunt's "week in review" this week is about the Republican's ditching democracy. The GoP are definitely the party of hyper-deregulation too.
Nationalism as cover/bait for undermining democracy, enabling removal of rights, protections, standards, enabling catastrophic environmental impacts to (temporarily) protect business interests.
The only thing standing in the way - stopping vested industries using politicians to achieve these aims - the only body that acted as a check, a brake, a limit to catastrophic deregulation... was the EU.
The technocrats were the solution, not the problem. They are the only body who held these nutters in check.
