Yesterday I had the pleasure of virtually “visiting” @RESCUEorg's longstanding program in Pakistan. I toured our life-saving and live-changing work in education with Afghan refugees & gender minority clients, and of course in health, with a second wave of COVID-19 on the horizon.
I met some of @RESCUEorg's inspiring nurses and doctors— who are busy preparing for a surge in COVID cases— caring for patients in a state-of-the-art isolation and intensive care unit in Peshawar funded by ECHO.
COVID has had a big negative impact on children. I 'visited' a @RESCUEorg accelerated learning program in Pakistan for Afghan refugees. The center is for 50 students but due to social distancing they can only have 5 students at a time. Home based classes have been established.
Pakistan has the second-highest number of children out of school in the world— and we’re working to change this at @RESCUEorg. In this center, I met Khalija, an Afghan refugee who hopes she can continue her education. Her dream is to become a teacher.
IRC Pakistan is also one of the few leading organizations in Pakistan who are not only working with transgender communities but have hired transgender staff members. Very honoured to speak with them.
