I don't talk about this publicly but I'm autistic. I am one of those oh but you look so 'normal' people, one that has struggled for years to figure you neuro typical people out -one who clutches my cat under my weighted blanket under the bed on occasion to feel "normal"
When @realDonaldTrump came for @GretaThunberg I almost came out - that man making fun of a passionate young woman who could mop the floor with him - I saw her ASD as a force - she was the storm - but - I didn't.
And now is see this. @Sia coming for autistic people who point out #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs - To not cast an autistic actor? This is just one petty tweet. There are so many more.
I am over it. I am over my community -- the disabled, neurodiverse community being marginalized, patted on the head, repeatedly. This is what #CripTheVote has been screaming about. Representation in the halls of government. Representation in pop culture.
@halleberry fortunately caught this and promptly admitted it. https://www.harpersbazaar.com/celebrity/latest/a33233870/halle-berry-apology-transgender-character/
As an investigative journalist who researches articles until the cows come home, Sia really could have done her homework re: Autism Speaks. Google it. They are awful.
From @Jezebel
Enough. My hope? My hope is that Sia, and the actors come together for form a thoughtful response to our legitimate concerns. Given the childish lashing out on twitter, I am not optimist.
Nevertheless We Persist. But first, where's my cat?
