Just saw @GaSecofState give his certification presser. While he affirmed that @JoeBiden won, a few statements concerned me.
First, I take issue with the notion that close elections inherently promote skepticism in election integrity. Really? No, people are contesting the election because they don’t like the result...
When this happens and there is NO EVIDENCE of malfeasance (and wild conspiracies are not evidence), election officials need to shut down the whining, whether it’s coming from Dems or the GOP.
I don’t have issues with @GaSecofState reviewing the election process and offering solutions to improve the process. But the suggestions Raffensperger offered seemed more aimed to placate Republicans mad that he didn’t declare Trump the winner than to be constructive.
Again, let me reiterate: we should not run away from legitimate troubleshooting. But, in tailoring his suggestions toward things that have been the fodder of conspiracy theories, he didn’t lower the temperature, and he didn’t help members of his party accept the election results.
