THREAD: Why Sia's movie is a problem.

1). She cast an able bodied person to play the role of an autistic person.

Therefore the movie will hold an incorrect representation of an autistic person.
2). There are also issues with abled people playing disabled roles, as it gives off the idea that disabled people can step in and out of their disability (as an abled actor is able to do so).
3). For example, in the Theory of Everything, Eddie Redmayne (plays Stephen Hawking), imagines that he stands up during a speech. But this is impossible for Stephen Hawking. A disabled actor couldn't do this.
4). This kind of behaviour is called inspiration porn, where disabled people are shown doing things outside of the bounds of their ability. ITS NOT POSSIBLE. As a deaf person, I can't just suddenly choose to hear when I want to.
5). After feedback, Sia continues to use the incorrect terms for disabled people, and uses terms such as 'specially abled', or 'on the spectrum'. Many autistic people like to label themselves as autistic. Disabled people are not specially abled. We're not some sort of superhero
6)... and now Sia is being rude.
7). Oh and did I mention that she said she researched for 3 years and came to the conclusion it was ok to cast an abled person in a disabled role?
8). Like no???? Theory of Everything, Me Before You, Witches, and more films, have incited backlash due to casting abled People in disabled roles... and her research failed to pick up on that?!
9. I think not.
