For the 1st time in my 28 yrs of living in Indy I am frustrated & disillusioned by the record breaking violence, & by the elected leadership in our city. The morale within IMPD is low. Elected officials, clergy, & community leaders are divided over the record breaking violence.
There is frustration within the business community. Residents are moving or want to move out of dangerous areas of the city. From 1999 to 2012 the city, IMPD, neighborhoods, grassroots organizations, community leaders, clergy, & anti-violence have always been able together to
answer the call to reduce an uptick in violence. Sadly since 2013 our conflicts with each other has lead to surging violence, & the last 6 yrs we have seen the highest homicides numbers in the history of Indy. From 2000 to 2012 Indy averaged 96 murders a yr. How did we do it?
The mayor's, IMPD, community leaders, elected officials, clergy, anti-violence, & neighborhoods worked together. We respected & listened to each other. We came up with strategies together to curb the violence. Keeping a major urban city under 100 murders is very difficult.
Indy we are now losing this city to hopelessness & lawlessness. Leadership matters in addressing this record breaking violence. Leadership that unites people & inspires people to come together for a common cause. All of us leaders must to better to help unite this city,
& start working together to end this surging record breaking violence in Indy. Indy if we do not do better together, the level of violence in this city is only going to get worse. Let's decide to do better together! đź‘Ť
