I just don't think the "let Trump flail in public strategy" works on the ground the way Dem leadership thinks it does. The more he says these things and the longer he says them, the more they get internalized because that's how propaganda becomes effective even when it's stupid.
Passivity enables this and prolongs it, and I don't know why we're so reluctant to aggressively take control of the narrative ourselves. Republicans do it all the time.
