Cleans are 100% worth the investment. At WP we know all about time constraints. Ultimately, when programming you have to consider the long term ceiling of the athlete and the program. Everything works. But nothing works forever.
For example, this years freshman class had to master pulls and powers from the power position before ever moving forward. For an athlete, violent leg drive is what we’re after.
Every time this topic comes up, we assume that coaches are immediately having athletes perform full ROM clean and jerks day one.

Nobody is proposing that. You can master the lifts one simple variation at a time. Progression and regression allow you to keep moving forward.
Do jumps and other power development methods work? Sure. Will they work for four plus years? Not likely. What will give you a return for years to come in so many different areas? Does it take investment? Of course.
“It takes too long to teach correctly”.
175lb freshman @Tyrell1205 stroking a routine 275 this week.

For the 1st 4-6 weeks of Freshman training, this group only did Hip Power Cleans and Hip Clean Pulls.

Master the intent and get them to understand the goal, this is the result.
