1/ A thread on Brackenfell today - my experience

Brackenfell had me conflicted. I despise all that EFF stand for & feel strongly that they need to be taken in hand before they start a fire that can't be extinguished and consumes us all

But they have also been very clever ......
2/ .....in painting Brackenfell as 'white racists vs black anti-racists'

Whilst acknowledging that racism is a daily reality in our society (and which all races are guilty of), nothing could be farther from the truth

EFF are promoting, not opposing racism

However, they have ..
3/ .... stopped good people speaking out for fear of being tarred with the racist brush

Well done to the @capeparty for not being bullied into silence. (less well done for not obtaining a permit and shooting themselves in the foot)

A net gain though, since they obtained ......
4/ .... a media platform from which to promote a non-racial independent cape (and lots of references about saving the rainbow nation - nice)

As a political lobbyist - well played Cape Party

Next to the police - everything I saw today on the ground was exemplary
5/ They were courteous, communicative, yet firm. I wasn't at the 'red end of the street' but they look to have handled that well too - credit where credit is due

Without them today would have been a bloodbath

I was standing with the Brackenfell residents ....
6/ They were heavily outnumbered, but armed to the teeth and not in a compromising mood. Had the police not intervened this would have been another Marikana with no winners

EFF were seemingly keen to charge their lines, and residents were quite prepared for them if they did
7/ I am grateful that no-one (as far as i know) has been seriously hurt so far, & I pray that everyone, whatever their race, gets home safely

Thereafter, we need to deal decisively with EFF. Are they a terrorist organisation or a political party. In a democracy you can't be both
8/ This is how the EFF are perceived by those receiving my twitter feed - does make a mockery of them campaigning against racism https://twitter.com/philcraig2/status/1329634552969633795?s=20
