At first, the responses seem receptive, but that’s short-lived. In contrast to the professed willingness to build a consensus, they swiftly proceed to reject every element of Francis’ view that could require any movement on their part. (2)
“Yes to building a consensus” ( @adrianday1) - If there’s any understanding of, or even openness to consider, the legitimacy of concerns about consultation or design, it’s not even remotely apparent, despite seemingly very little knowledge or understanding of #BowesLTN (3)
@halhaines seems intent on placing the ball in our court, apparently unaware of several designs that have been suggested. Our caution is sensible and understandable. Expertise is not needed to understand that a scheme is not working, but it is required to know how to fix it. (4)
“In an atmosphere of mutual respect” ( @subversivite). We neither deny nor condone disrespectful attitudes displayed by a small number concerned about LTNs in Enfield, but we do wonder if @betterst4enf appreciate the extent to which a lack of respect on their part is perceived.(5)
The basis for which appears in many comments. Those with differing views are dismissively labelled as antis, casually associated with Brexiteers (implying ignorance & underhandedness?), & (as has been typical) vandalism is treated as representative of all those with concerns.(6)
Then @adrianday1 shares a tweet from Paul Megson (Imagine) which essentially suggests that anyone strongly opposing an LTN is part of an orchestrated campaign resolutely and selfishly seeking to block all / any change… (7)
… and that the reasons we give for concern are dishonest and not worthy of consideration. It’s the most liked comment on the thread. And when questioned this is strongly defended by Clare Rogers (amongst others). All revelatory of a deep-rooted lack of respect. (8)
Which also applies to unswerving support for @EnfieldCouncil who block us, and treat us with the same disrespect (thugs, Trumpian, UKIP), mirrored by tweets from @betterst4enf, with whom @IanBarnes2001 easily and often engages. (Could this explain BSfE “becoming a target”?) (9)
The simple truth seems to be that BSfE do think all these things apply to us. This is confirmed by Hal Haines, “those who you interviewed are clever and understand that.” Posted on a public forum, & highly revelatory, it gives little hope for the prospects of mutual respect.(10)
All who we speak to support the goals that the LTN seeks to achieve, but it seems BSfE are not open to trusting this. Without reciprocation, mutual understanding is unattainable. Until this changes the ball is most certainly not in our court. (11)
It would be remiss not to note @Enfieldrifle‘s quietly courageous call for a more reasoned and reasonable approach, & Will Hoyle's willingness to compromise. They should offer a positive note to end on, unfortunately we’ve seen nothing to suggest that they will be heeded. (12/12)
