Thread on Somalia allegedly being the most corrupt country in the world.
Over the last 2 decades of civil war in Somalia, our country got stuck with a lot of western media’s coined terms or monikers to describe us :

« War torn Somalia »

« Pirate haven  » etc.

But none has been most persistently false than « the most corrupt country in the world ».
The « Somalia is the most corrupt country in the world » popular belief has been consistently pushed by one organization.

Transparency international and its infamous « Corruption PERCEPTION index » (key word perception), that been ranking Somalia last for the last ten years.
Now lets be precise about what’s wrong with Transparency International’s corruption perception index :

1. Its not based on facts gathering but on the "feelings" of a panel of businessmen about which country is most corrupt.

2. They dont send anyone to visit the countries ranked
In 2019, Somalia Govt Finance Minister Dr Beyle said :

« Allegations of corruption against Somalia are baseless,

and I’d like to remind everyone that Transparency International ranking Somalia last on its index is literally "a matter of opinion & not based on scientific facts"
Beileh : I wrote a letter to Transparency International & said "How can you evaluate students, if you arent testing them ?"

Thats why we invited them to come Somalia and evaluate the govt's budget, books & financial management and then publish a report, but they didnt responded.
Dr Beileh : « Transparency International ranking Somalia last out of 184 countries, every single year without facts, is simply unacceptable.

We reached out to Transparency International but they didnt responded,

thats why we decided to take them to court in a few months »
Unlike Transparency International, the Trace index score is factually based on 4 factors :

- business interactions with govt

- anti-bribery enforcement,

- govt & civil service transparency,

- capacity for civil society oversight.
Very important distinction between TRACE Global Bribery Risk Matrix and @anticorruption's "Corruption Perception Index".

One is actual and based on facts; the other is a perception.

Yet Somalia’s internal & external enemies only parrot the 2nd one because it fit their agenda
