Seeing all these journalists bag out SA health professionals for "overreacting" or "changing their stance based on new information" really gets to me as a public health student, we're all taught that clear communication is paramount but I'm reminded of 1/
an ethics lecture I was a part of in 2019 where we were talking about how during the first SARS scare in 2003 Onotario public health quarantined an entire train and at the time this was frames as a gross overreaction and a massive impingement on 2/
civil liberties. It's hard to look at the current pandemic and criticise them now, they took a "not on my watch" approach and in doing so avoided what we are currently seeing with SARS CoV 2. 3/
It's hard to point fingers or blame individuals when the virus has been so heavily politicised, but everyone needs to remember that viruses aren't even metabolising, they're inanimate. They don't care what you think in the same way that rocks don't care what you think 4/
and it's time to stop pointing fingers and recognise that the only way through is via co-operation. This might be antithetical to your ideology but if you could shut up for a couple of months then everyone will be back to normal pretty quickly, you included.
