THREAD: Here’s how Trump could theoretically pull off his clown coup. I am definitely no expert, in fact I probably haven’t even fully thought this through, so feel free to jump in and point out my errors.
But this is what I picked up today from hearing @bartongellman and Lincoln project advisor @jefftimmer. The bat shit crazy messing with the electors plan is exactly what they’re going to try. Your immediate reaction might be there’s no way the state legislatures would do this.
But consider this – all the states in question have Republican Legislatures. Why wouldn’t they do it? Keep in mind that they may believe all the bullshit from the right including Hillary Clinton eating babies. So they actually believe they’re saving the country.
Or if they don’t, they are still afraid to lose power. And if they pull this off they all remain in power. And all it takes is for the first domino to fall.
The Michigan Legislatures are going to visit Trump tomorrow. And as @jefftimmer said on MSNBC tonight there’s very little chance that they can resist the pressure they’ll all be under.
Once one domino falls, why wouldn’t the rest of them? They will be pressured with threats, enticed with bribes, and who knows what else.
So if I understand this correctly all that has to happen is that these legislatures decide to send trump electors instead of Biden electors. This is not the same thing as a faithless elector this is the state sending two sets - one from the governor and one from the legislature.
Once that is in dispute the entire electoral college is disrupted. And then it ends up as a decision of Congress. In this particular case it is not each Congress person that votes, it is each state. And the Republicans have enough states to keep Trump in power.
Now somebody explain to me why this wouldn’t work. It’s not illegal, it doesn’t involve faithless electors. all it requires is a few states to have their legislatures be pressured enough that they send their own electors.

I’d be happy for somebody to explain why I’m wrong.
