As WA faces increased statewide restrictions, @GovInslee is considering economic relief to small businesses and individuals. So what should the Governor & #WALeg be considering to support communities? One simple answer: direct cash with the #WAWorkingFamiliesTaxCredit ⬇️/1
Advocates are calling for a statewide #RecoveryRebate – an updated #WAWorkingFamiliesTaxCredit that would provide an annual $500 direct cash payment to support low- and moderate-income earners, with additional amounts for kids in the home. /2
Direct, flexible cash assistance is a necessary part of a complete state recovery package. It:
✅Advances Racial Equity
✅Complements & fills in gaps of existing public support programs
✅Deepens support for immigrant families
✅Promotes a faster economic recovery from COVID /3
We know that the federal government must take action to provide another round of #COVIDRelief aid. Federal stimulus checks were a good start – but far too many people were excluded and for low- and moderate-income earners, that stimulus has long dried up. /5
@GovInslee & #WaLeg must create an economic stimulus plan that prioritizes progressive revenue and direct cash to individuals. It’s esp. important that BIPOC people & immigrants who’ve been hit hardest economically by COVID – because of systemic racism – receive a cash boost. /6
We are also so excited to be working with Representative My-Linh Thai, @ElectMyLinhThai, & Senator Joe Nguyen, @meetjoenguyen, longtime champions for working people in Washington, to enact a #WAWorkingFamiliesTaxCredit! /8
If you haven't already, please take a moment to urge @GovInslee to prioritize cash to communities by taking this quick action: https://bit.ly/WFTC_GovBudget  #WAWorkingFamiliesTaxCredit #RecoveryRebate /9
