If you really support mentally ill ppl, stop shaming poor hygiene, social withdrawal, being sensitive/"soft", conflict avoidance, "armchair activism", indecisiveness, living w/ parents, being "weird", low energy, shyness/quiet, irregular sleep patterns, overthinking, messy homes
Stop dismissively saying "go to therapy" whenever someone does something you don't like.

Stop acting like therapy is an instant fix; like there aren't a dozen barriers to finding a good therapist; that mental health problems can always be "cured" with enough hard work.
A lot of people believe these things are too minor to be worth addressing. Like shame & stigma aren't incredibly harmful. Like poor treatment and perception of mentally ill people doesn't directly affect our well-being, self-esteem, relationships, ability to find work & housing.
Every day I'm amazed at how people will call themselves "mental health advocates" while they stubbornly refuse to consider the ways they uphold ableism towards mentally ill people.

If you aren't doing the work to unlearn this type of ableism, you're absolutely perpetuating it.
A lot of people focusing on the hygiene part of this or saying "all of this except the hygiene part" no. I said what I said. There are actually lots of disabilities (+ meds) that affect hygiene. It's not up for debate so expect a block. https://twitter.com/swampflora/status/1324460848211992578?s=19
Y'all love to misinterpret tweets on this site.

Literally all I'm saying is don't call yourself a MH advocate if you're going to be cruel to people struggling with their mental health & mental illness can manifest in ways you might not expect. That shouldn't be controversial.
