I love this piece on “cosmopolitan evangelicalism” by @danielghummel. Cosmo ev is indeed real, and it is more than a glitch in the populist matrix. (I like to think of it shorthand as IVP ev.) https://twitter.com/dmichaellindsay/status/1329571063118917633
What’s interesting to me is how and where cosmo and populist ev interact. What does this look like, what are the power dynamics, who exerts influence over whom? I like how @danielghummel suggests possible ways to consider relative influence.
Also, I like that my book is outselling Al Mohler’s. Thanks for that.🤠 (Phil Robertson’s puts mine to shame, though.) Worth noting that there are a lot of populist ev books that wouldn’t be categorized there. Plus radio and TV, which are far more influential among populist evs.
Another angle to explore is how cosmopolitan ev orgs are constrained by populist orthodoxies when it comes to powerful donors and constituents. Again, power dynamics. But these are precisely the questions we need to be exploring.
