...why experienced producers shouldn't have to make a case for funding like everyone else instead of it being automatic- after all, these are tax dollars. Also, there was an Indigenous incentive for producers at Telefilm for years that didn't yield results. Been there, done that.
Finally, access to bigger budgets (I just made one of the biggest budget Indigenous-helmed films in Canada) shouldn't mean that we are forced into relationships with a handful of producers who have access. Experience doesn't mean that producers share your values, and we are...
...asking for our autonomy to be respected, which means getting to choose who we work with. Finally, we've been asking for more support for Ind. producers for years, so leveling the playing field for BIPOC producers by getting rid of a rigged system is the bare mimimum we can do.
