THREAD: Considering I’m going through it rn I thought I’d do a mini (possibly long) thread on what PMDD is like and my experiences:
At the moment it’s more a sporadic bc I’m on the pill but usually every 2 and a half weeks I start to ovulate and my body basically goes into overdrive - it’s not completely known what causes it but they reckon it’s due to a negative reaction to the rise and fall (1)
Of your hormones from the brain (something called a cellular disorder - idk what that is properly - I’m not a scientist). For me I get quite physically ill from ovulation, migraines, fatigue, bad ovulation cramps, just to name a few of the symptoms (2)
Then we move on to what I like to call ✨ the main course ✨ if you will which is after I’ve dealt with the physical side I’m hit with the severe mood swings, going from incredibly happy/manic, to severe depression, paranoia, anxiety & intrusive thoughts (3)
I have to deal with episodes where I lose control of the ability to regulate my emotions properly I get incredibly angry, and incredibly upset and usually end up crying till my stomach hurts and my vision goes a bit blurred. (4)

Another thing i have to deal with is suicidal thoughts and ideation - I don’t really want to go into this much if I’m completely honest - just know I’m usually safe and have safety plans in place that involve my parents etc :) (5)
This is probably the most I’ve ever shared with people who aren’t my immediate family - but I think it’s important for people to realise that PMDD isn’t just PMS, it’s not just me having mood swings or being hormonal (well maybe that one) (6)
It’s chronic, there currently isn’t a cure for it that isn’t non invasive to the reproductive system. People lose lives to PMDD through suicide. 1 in 20 women live with PMDD - many undiagnosed, or misdiagnosed. It’s so important we talk about this more. (END)
