So we have entity-capture in Ireland, with transwomen on the board of @NWCI. Where does this end? I'm genuinely interested.
So once the board of @NWCI is made up entirely of people who were born male, what happens then? Do we move towards all children being trans in Ireland? Does the lived experience of being a woman cease to matter?
Does the whole history of women in Ireland get erased? Do we forget everything? The shame, the pain, the babies, the laundries, the horror, the punishments of women for being female? The thundering disapproval and censure of a patriarchal Church and State?
The shame, the pain, the wandering fingers of the parish priest, the heavy breathing of the pillars of the community, the rapes and subsequent babies of rape, sold off to America all, all, the fault of women and their pesky bodies? Shall we forget?
The poor eejit girls who didn't understand what was being done to them. The wans that had a bit of a notion of what was being done to them. The clued-in ones who thought he'd marry them. The laundries. The prison system for girls who opened their legs.
The broken women, the traumatized children, the ruined lives?
And, separate from all this, the MEN. The men who poked and fiddled and came, and walked away.
The MEN who fiddled and twiddled and gasped and manipulated and thrusted and came with shuddering gasps, again and again and again, and with those thrustin gasps condemned generations of girls to lifetimes of pain and shame and heartbreak.
On this Day of Men, why don’t we talk about those men? The men whose thrusting and gasping and coming meant so much that generations of Irish women had heartbreak?
The men, protected by the Church and the community, who were allowed to fiddle and gasp and come and walk away, leaving ruined lives in their wake?
The fiddling and gasping and coming all over Irish women- and the ensuing trauma- was done by people with penises. I am unsure how a person with a penis is going to help to revisit this sordid, disgraceful history, regardless of identification.
Everyone forgets that for every single traumatised woman in Ireland, forced to give up her baby, or to get on a ferry to England, there was some nonsense merchant intent on spewing his pathetic load in her and then walking away.
And now here's me being all gynocentric- Sara? Where's the fragrant Sara? Oh there you are Sara! What's your view on how resources should be allocated to traumatised women who suffered at the hands of men.... oh, really....
