Making jokes about a man being effeminate or a woman being butch are sexist and not homophobic.

Being effeminate is not a immutable sign a person is gay & being butch is not an immutable sign of a person being a lesbian.

The bigotry are linked to norms on womenhood.

Bias towards effeminacy and butchness are linked to societal norms on what it means to be feminine and gender constructs on womanhood.

None of those factors determine if a person is a gay man or a lesbian women.

These lead to idiotic takes like "you don't look gay" , "you don't act gay" , "any man would want to get with a woman who looks like you", etc.

On the other hand, there are plenty of men (probably not Lindsey Graham) that are either effeminate in their mannerism or matter of speech that are not gay & likewise there are females that society says that are butch that are hetero (not all female athletes are lesbians!)

Lesbians face hate crimes and violence more than gay men. A large part of this is based on social constructs.

There is a violent and evil philosophy that you can sexually assault the gayness out of women.

It needs to stop & these sexist, not homophobic, tropes are why!
