unpopular opinion time... i don’t think underage ppl should be idols . like at all
a) even if you’re really passionate, you’re not emotionally ready. imagine being like 16 and going through all the normal teenage puberty meltdowns but everything you do is documented and hyperanalysed by fans. you literally don’t get a moment of privacy.
put yourself in the shoes of some 14-17 year old kid just playing and being affectionate with your friends and people online start writing novel-length fanfiction about how much they want you to make out.
and before you come here with the “so you’re assuming they’re straight?” im not. if anything its even worse for you to be doing that if they’re closeted or questioning, and feeling like youre going to out them.
being clocked like that is terrifying and it makes you paranoid about every interaction you have the gender(s) you’re attracted to. take it from her.
b) fans are absolutely the worst and children shouldn’t have to deal with that. imagine just wanting to follow ur dreams and sing and dance and make ppl happy but you have to deal with and pretend to like these absolute shitheads.
like if people sending g0re or d3ath thr3ats in your name isn’t bad enough, there will always be those terrible creepy fans who prey on you and have no boundaries or sense of morals. like remember when m0m0land had to deal with a guy jerking off at their fansign????
it’s absolutely not the idols faults that their fans are like this but if they weren’t idols, they wouldn’t have to deal with this stuff. if they’re adults they’re at least more mature and better equipped to take legal action.
c) children need to be children. i don’t care if you’re 16 and you think you’re “basically an adult”. im sorry, you’re not, but that’s not a bad thing. kids deserve to grow up in a safe and healthy environment, no ifs or buts.
dropping out of school earlier than the legal limit so you can practise 12 hours a day isnt normal. being on starvation diets isnt normal. being in the public eye constantly isnt normal. people having websites dedicated to taking photos of you wherever you go isnt normal
children shouldn’t have to deal with this and if you’re genuinely about to argue against this you need to reevaluate your priorities and how you view yourself as a consumer with a parasocial relationship with these idols
also just clarifying: this is not me saying kids are not talented enough or arent serious about being idols, im simply saying the external factors that come with being an idol are too dangerous and overwhelming for children to deal with
