I feel like if people are going to be raising the specter that institutions will fail, then the fact that redundancies and dispersed responsibilities inherent to those institutions sustained them shouldn’t be so quickly waved off.

(Not that Nate personally is doing this) https://twitter.com/Nate_Cohn/status/1329486772234018820
But like it’s weird to be like “oh well if only that one republican had done something different in Georgia” when like the whole reason systems and institutions prevail is that there are lots of choke points where massive numbers of people would have to go along.
Person 1: “Donald Trump will do a coup!”

Person 2: “Coups can’t happen in America. He’ll lose and stop being president on January 20.”

*Trump loses, attempts to stay in office, fails*

Person 1: “See?”

See what?
People who like to catastrophize bad things to 1,000% think of themselves as being vigilant and smart and made of stern but necessary stuff but there are actual bad consequences to constantly haranguing people into believing they are facing existential threats every minute
