I'm seeing the first Cyberpunk 2077 previews land today, praising the amount of content and detail in the game.
That's valid--but PLEASE keep in mind that this detail and content variety is the result of nearly a decade of (crunch-driven) development.

We had the same problem after Witcher 3 launched.
For years afterward, any role-playing game of sufficient scale was compared to that game--which isn't fair!
Of course you aren't going to have the sheer amount of quests or graphical baubles.
This a sheer difference of *time*.

I know plenty of people who would LOVE a safety net of even 1 extra month to make their game better--regardless of studio size.
The difference a month can make in a game's total polish can be genuinely transformative.
Apply that to *years* of development.

The vast majority of studios can't even ATTEMPT to make a Cyberpunk, or a Rockstar game. It has nothing to do with talent or skill.
It's a hard function of time, money, and visibility.
Enjoy the games if you want--but for the love of God, don't use them as a point of comparison.
