As we come together for our weekly “WTF RUDY GIULIANI” moment, I think it’s worth remembering that even his rambling, incoherent Fox News segments play into a broader “strategy” meant to induce cognitive overload by flooding the zone with disinformation and nonstop chaos.
It doesn’t matter that Trump, Giuliani, etc, aren’t proving their case. They don’t have to. All they have to do is raise doubts about the election outcome, then inject enough disinformation and division to make people stop believing that one shared truth or reality even exists.
We all know Trump, Giuliani, etc, are corrupt and dishonest. But they don’t need to and aren’t trying to change our minds about them. Rather, they want to convince us that everyone else — politicians, poll workers, scientists, journalists — is just as or more corrupt as they are.
If you can make people start believing that basically every major source of information is corrupt and stop believing in the existence of a single, shared truth/reality, you can effectively crumble a democracy from within. It’s been done plenty of times before.
I wish I had some easy solution to the problem, but the best advice I can offer you is to focus less on the mistruths, deceptions, & liars, and more on trying to be a credible source of public information who can be relied on to tell the truth even when it’s hard or inconvenient.
