It's #InternationalMensDay. Let's talk.
• Men are 3 times more likely to take their own lives than women. Yet, men are less likely to access psychological therapies than women. We need to break the stigma of reaching out for help and stop telling men/boys to "man up."
• 4,000 Canadian men die from prostate cancer each year. When men experience pain, they're taught to "walk it off" & "be strong" and as a result of this conditioning, men are more reluctant to see a doctor - and it is costing lives. This needs to change.
#InternationalMensDay
• 96% of sexual attacks on men go unreported. Sexual assault is one of the most under-reported crimes in the nation for both men & women. The numbers decrease alarmingly when the victim is male. Stereotypes, stigma and the toxic effects of gender expectations on men need to end.
