a friend made a very good point on here that just sent me into a rage (if you know me nothing pisses me off more than environmental destruction).
everyone is shitting on the tree in rockefeller center but not at all taking the time to think about how that tree got there. 1/

i don’t know how the NYC trees are sourced. this year’s says it came from a local town. so did they grow it specifically for this purpose, or did they go out into the woods looking for it?
i guess it doesn’t matter to me overall but i really hope it was grown for this. 2/

if it was grown specifically to be put there, i find solace in the fact that the tree had a purpose from the start (to put a smile on people’s faces... i guess.)
so then we get to THIS tree.
first off... yep it’s 2020, cool metaphor.
but what hurts the most about this tree? 3/

we are straight up saying “nah we don’t care that people are suffering and dying, we’re still going to put it up FOR CAPITALISM”. maybe the tree knew it wasn’t meant to be there this year. or at all. 4/

come to think of it, we don’t really discourage real trees in homes.
my dad always told us we couldn’t have real ones because they shed needles and are a fire hazard. cool, convincing enough. so my family has had the same plastic tree for probably 15 years at least. 5/

well hopefully you’ve kept it until it’s literally falling apart because surprise!! it’s still going in the landfill!! 6/

so here we have our constant moral dilemma, folks! we’ve developed plastic alternatives that mimic nature but that plastic is destroying our planet. TL;DR i hate it here. 7/

please don’t come at me being like “but that tree is so magical for a lot of people!”
there are alternatives to constantly ignoring nature. did y’all hear they literally found an owl in that tree? that was it’s HOME. owls are our messengers. nature is fucking SCREAMING at us. 8/
