a friend made a very good point on here that just sent me into a rage (if you know me nothing pisses me off more than environmental destruction).
everyone is shitting on the tree in rockefeller center but not at all taking the time to think about how that tree got there. 1/

i donât know how the NYC trees are sourced. this yearâs says it came from a local town. so did they grow it specifically for this purpose, or did they go out into the woods looking for it?
i guess it doesnât matter to me overall but i really hope it was grown for this. 2/

if it was grown specifically to be put there, i find solace in the fact that the tree had a purpose from the start (to put a smile on peopleâs faces... i guess.)
so then we get to THIS tree.
first off... yep itâs 2020, cool metaphor.
but what hurts the most about this tree? 3/

we are straight up saying ânah we donât care that people are suffering and dying, weâre still going to put it up FOR CAPITALISMâ. maybe the tree knew it wasnât meant to be there this year. or at all. 4/
come to think of it, we donât really discourage real trees in homes.
my dad always told us we couldnât have real ones because they shed needles and are a fire hazard. cool, convincing enough. so my family has had the same plastic tree for probably 15 years at least. 5/

âbut what happens when you want to throw that plastic tree out?â
well hopefully youâve kept it until itâs literally falling apart because surprise!! itâs still going in the landfill!! 6/

so here we have our constant moral dilemma, folks! weâve developed plastic alternatives that mimic nature but that plastic is destroying our planet. TL;DR i hate it here. 7/
please donât come at me being like âbut that tree is so magical for a lot of people!â
there are alternatives to constantly ignoring nature. did yâall hear they literally found an owl in that tree? that was itâs HOME. owls are our messengers. nature is fucking SCREAMING at us. 8/
