New @crisis_uk research tracks the changing impacts of the pandemic on people facing #homelessness and frontline services since March. There has been contiuned flow of new people exp. homelessness &
demand for services but we are seeing increasing divergence across GB (thread)

In the 1st few months of the pandemic the
was driven by ppl sofa surfing & living in dangerous/transient accommodation. In the 2nd wave there are bigger
ppl homeless for the 1st time, ppl on furlough and newly unemployed

Frontline services quickly adapted to helping ppl with basic needs such as food & hygiene and supporting lonliness + isolation. There has been a stregthening of relationships across all services with a shared goal of keeping people safe and treating everyone with dignity
Gov policies have had a positive effect throughout the pandemic. LAs and vol sector talked about impact of pause on evictions, LHA uplift to 30th percentile and provision of emergency accommodation. But there is concern about temp nature of these measures & newly arising need
The instruction to provide safe accommodation for all incl. people with NRPF was welcome by all but there are continued anxieties around the financial pressures and uncertainty of funding commitments alongside the moral duty of not evicting people back onto the streets
As the pandemic continues there is more divergence across GB. In England there is an
lack of universal approach to Everyone In. The existing policy framework in Scotland meant the groundwork had been done to move ppl quickly into accommodation & led to more effective response

In Wales the funding made available to councils has covered the costs of the emergency response but there are growing anxieties about the commitment beyond March 2021.
Across GB there is an over reliance on temp accommodation. The research points to a greater need for safe, permanent, affordable housing for people on low incomes and a scaling up of support models like #housingfirst for those who need it
