Had the privilege to be in a call with the @PointNineCap family today, where @robindchnt shared some insights on building communities.
A few of my takeaways
A few of my takeaways

"Communities are simply groups of people who keep coming together over what they care about"
A great example of first principle thinking. Many companies look at communities with ROI in mind first.
It's better to reverse it - think about the audience before the product.

Robin shared a quote from @kracov that resonated with me:
"A community is an ebook that writes itself"
A sign of a healthy community is a community that works as a living, breathing ecosystem on its own.

Focus on the bottom-up.
Building a community is similar to building a product. You build it ~with~your people - not for them.

Write playbooks and replicate them.
Double down on what works (obviously) but be cautious of copying strategies that worked for others.
Your audience will most certainly be very different in comparison.

Form habits.
Define the journey for your audience. What are the key moments that can form a habit for each new member?
Know your people.

Track metrics.
Follow total members. See how active they are on a weekly basis. Do they send messages to the group or are they most active through DMs?

Build a community to empower them.
Crowdsource knowledge (big factor), host workshops.
Let your most active members become ambassadors, leading projects on their own.
Make a program out of that.

Start lean. Have as little friction as possible.
Research thoroughly how your audience uses the web. How do they engage with digital assets?
Let that lead your thought process in choosing the best platform for your people.

...and that's a wrap! Insane amount of value in an hour.
Thanks again to @robindchnt and @PointNineCap for letting me participate.
And thanks to you for reading this thread - I hope you found as useful as I did!
