As a screenwriter and a film maker, often of films that take place in alternate universes with characters with impossible powers and turns of events that defy all odds, it is plain to see Trump's governance style and how successful it is against Democratic strategies. 1/
The latest Guliani Press conf. & the recanting of the MI GOP electoral board members illustrates his tactics as well as any. Team Trump drops improbable breadcrumbs, 1 small chunk of story at a time, so their base never have to stare at the preposterous nature of big lie. /2
In movies, we rarely reveal the plot in one fell swoop. We give the audience glimpses, snippets of it. This creates suspense & mystery (which increases interest) but also lessens the logical human mind's rejection of the highly improbable story. 3/
My fear is that Democrats are not playing any narrative game at all and haven't been for years. The media, even media that are legitimate & earnest have a hard time resisting this story telling style as it is inherently more dramatic. Dems proceed w/ faith in "the truth". 4/
But even when, in Hollywood, we tell true stories, we withhold some info, so as to allow the audience the shock of confronting the full scope of things only after they are "hooked" into suspense, & invested in the intriguing narrative. Dems need a narrative, a story to tell. END/
