I get why publications and people have to try, but I am generally not interested at all in reaching out to MAGA ppl.

Idk, there's something about looking towards a group that collectively (whether individuals by into it or not) would deny others dignity and humanity in incredibly callous ways makes this something I'm just not interested in dealing with.

I get it some of you got fam on that end, and I prolly got a handful of ppl leaning that way, but at this point...there's a certain destructive tendency being indulged at reaching out to them at the expense of people that are actively suffering at their hands.

I don't think any amount of polemics or clever rhetorical tricks will sway a person like that from shifting their viewpoint. What the clash really is about is how one views the importance and primacy of American mythos

This is to say, that change is not going to come in a discussion or even several discussions world view shifts more subtly and RN the Maga folks adhere to a specific understanding of what "America" is and who it belongs to.

You can call that a Death Cult, a type of Fundamentalism, Run of hte mill racism or "economic anxiety" if you want to massage it, but it arrives at the same point...the MAGA narrative is a story people fervently believe and it will harm others and it will continue to be told

The issue with Democrats is their opposition to that story of American Exceptionalism and Manifest Destiny type tendencies is closer to the MAGA worldview than an actual refutation (Think Hillary's America is already great slogan)

I don't really have anything to offer as a "solution" these ppl will continue to exist and some of their children will take up the torch and continue telling these stories. Look at how long it took for Southerners to realize the Confederate flag wasn't cool (even then)

The point is Stories last a long time and they aren't destroyed immediately for better or worse.

The fact that MAGA is a story at this point means it is far more dangerous than many would realize but this also means in some ways it can be diminished BUT only if we start telling different stories.
