Latest school attendance figures give some impression of the significant problems in parts of the country. In secondary schools last week in England, attendance was 83%, down from 87% the week before. DfE says this is largely due to increases in pupil Covid self isolation.
Remember, this is an average, in some pockets of the country figures are much higher still.

I've had reports of children having to have repeated bouts of self isolation, in some cases six weeks or more.

One of the major problems with a) patchy IT provision b) 2021 exam season.
On 12th November, 64% of state-funded secondaries had at least one pupil self isolating for Covid (38% last week). Figure was 22% of state-funded primaries (11% last week).
