Some #WJC2021 news.

A thread.

Given the ambiguity of how quarantine/isolation has been defined and implemented regarding NCAA players with Team Canada, many of you have asked about the restrictions for the other countries when they arrive in Canada for the tournament. (1/?)
The teams are opening camps in their home countries on Dec 7th. All players, coaches and staff will immediately be tested and isolated to their individual hotel rooms. If negative, they can hit the ice. If positive, they are sent home and will not be available for the #WJC. (2/?)
The tournament organizers have arranged three charter flights - SWE, FIN & RUS from Helsinki; SVK, CZE & AUT from Vienna; SUI & GER from Zurich - and they all leave on Dec. 13th. So if anyone tests positive, there's not enough time to quarantine, so they'd be unable to fly. (3/?)
For this reason, many European teams are inviting upwards of 30 players to camp, just in case some players become unavailable. In addition to the initial test upon arrival, everyone must pass three COVID tests to be able to fly to Edmonton. (4/?)
Team USA will have a rolling start to their camp from December 6th through the 10th to allow players to complete games with their respective NCAA teams. They will also have to pass three tests before boarding their charter from Detroit to Edmonton. No, they're not bussing. (5/?)
Upon arrival in Edmonton, every team will immediately be tested again and will have to isolate in their individual hotel rooms for four days, regardless of negative results, and will not be able to gather as a team for meals or meetings, let alone practice until Dec 18th. (6/?)
Each team will have their own floor in the hotel which includes rooms for meals, meetings and a player lounge for ping pong and video games, etc. After the initial five day waiting period, the players will also be able to bunk up with two to a room. (7/?)
Until then, teams are preparing conditioning kits for their players to properly stay active in their hotel rooms. Team meetings, video sessions and "group" conditioning will all take place via video conference and everyone will have four meals delivered to their room daily. (8/?)
There are conflicting reports regarding Team Canada having to go through the five day isolation since they are already in Canada. I'm awaiting confirmation from Hockey Canada, but the thought is that it would still be required to enter IIHF bubble. (9/?)
Also, all media availability during the tournament will happen via video conference and only media members that currently reside in Canada will be allowed to watch the games from the press box and even that would be a limited number.

I think that's it... for now! 😉 (10/10)
Update: It's been confirmed that Team Canada will also have to isolate until the 18th for entrance into the IIHF #WJC2021 bubble.

Also, got word on some current camp invite numbers: USA - 28; Sweden - 30+; SVK - 45 (starts 11/30); AUT - 36 and GER - 27
