Is this the hashtag, really? #SC_MLA
Ok well I’m attending the keynote today with Rick Anderson. Lots of talk on what is changing in science publications, esp the proliferation thereof.
“Morally unacceptable” #OA
“Mega journals”: publish 1000s and 1000s of #OpenAccess journals. “If it’s good science, we’ll publish it” (even null findings, even unexciting)
Articles, not journals. Y’all knew what I meant! 😉
Whoa, and there’s also a newer one coming, called “quartz.” #OpenAccess
Slow & steady increases predicted.
There is no “peer review” at all in predatory publishing. They just publish your article fast, even if it’s nonsense.
2 takeaways:
1. Watch that COVID19 science out there.
2. Use your #medlibs to help vet. It’s why we’re here, it’s what we’re paid to do, and we’re experts! #IJS
Ooh he’s “quite critical” of the #OpenAccess movement, but he’s in favor of it. His worry is the attitude that OA is the one true religion, and we need a better scholarly communication ecosystem—no more subscription access only.
He strongly encourages #medlibs to learn how publishing works.
