THREAD: For years Sinn Féin and others have made the mainstream economic arguments for unity:

- peripheral isolation of border region
- uncoordinated & unfulfilled development
- agglomeration & public investment benefits removing international & currency border.

But, worthy as these are, there is a responsibility on republicans to prevent the economic arguments for unity from turning into a proxy for improved profitability & higher returns solely for Irish capital.

So what are the labour & green arguments for reunification?

For climate justice, the North as a state has neither the autonomy or capacity to roll out a programme of transformative green investment.

The CCC estimates a £1trn cost for net zero in Britain & the North. This means an additional £1-1.5bn per year for the North out to 2050.

For social justice, basic levers to be wielded by the state to create a fairer & democratic economy are held in Whitehall.

GDP growth, before taxes & transfers, is more unequally distributed in Britain than in the US.

People in the North have no power to correct this further /4
The left & green case for unity, especially those bound to a vision of what the political economy of reunification SHOULD look like, must be brought front and centre to accompany the mainstream arguments which focus on broadstrokes benefits 'come what may'.
