You hinted at bioluminescence, color, some redeeming or at least alluring aspect to char design, some dimension to the darkness
A visual hint at a caste that might trade, be approachable, winnable in game

Not just bioluminescence, but *iridescence*!
Give the Bad Guys both grace & beauty at war w/ aggression & violence
