Excerpt from my copy of the November 20, 1863 NY Times. It’s front page covered an event that happened #OTD in 1863, the “Dedication of the National Cemetery at Gettysburg.” (1/3)
#GettysburgAddress @librarycongress @USNatArchives @ALPLM @jaketapper
Later on in the dedication coverage, the President’s speech, aka the #GettysburgAddress. The reporter who captured the short speech also captured applause from the crowd, something lost in solemn re-readings. (2/3)
The reporter also captured Edward Everett’s speech, a footnote to history, which took the entirety of page two and part of page three. (3/3)
Apologies for the repeat, but saw several editing errors. They drive me crazy.
