While a month or two so ago the problem was mainly in Oadby, and Wigston looked better, unfortunately the rate of cases in Wigston & South Wigston has gone shooting up, and there is now a problem in both parts of the Borough.
There are now significantly more Coronavirus patients in Leicestershire hospitals (UHL) than there were even in the peak in the spring. The chart below is now quite old data, but gives you a sense of the trend, which has continued, and won't stop rising for a few weeks yet,
Taking action is a bit like hitting the brakes on a very heavy vehicle. We should start to see the effects of the new national measures coming through in the coming days and local rates will start to slow and come down. The challenge is to get them down quicker.
Vaccines are now arriving, and the UK has bought up more in advance than anywhere else - so next year we will start to roll out vaccination and things will get back to normal at last...
But there is a way to go till then, and it is in our hands: the more we do to cut transmission, the more we will save lives and health, and the faster we will get back to normal. It's up to all of us.
